Made during my residency in Japan :)

Great for sushi or serving dish, or as a centerpiece! Handbuilt shigaraki clay tray with natural wood ash accumulation.

note, due to the coarse nature of the shigaraki clay, this piece is rough in some areas

Fired in an anagama kiln! This kiln is an ancient style wood fired kiln dating back to the 5th century! These kilns are built like a cave into the earth along a hillside to create a natural single chamber tunnel for the flames to move throughout. The firing process requires 5 full days of round the clock stoking with a team of 10 artists. Ceramics fired in an anagama kiln are known for distinct natural wood-ash glazes, dramatic flame marks, and unpredictable earthy textures ~ true one of a kinds!

For the longevity of the piece it is recommended to hand wash with care.
